Marlene's Bio

Marlene Hurst received her Master of Science in Nursing in 1988 from Mississippi University for Women, and started Hurst Review Services that very same year.  Marlene is also an Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner-R, a certified Critical Care Nurse and an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor.

Few people are as qualified to lecture and give instruction in the field of nursing as Marlene. She has had the good fortune of experiencing nursing firsthand as a Critical Care Staff and Charge Nurse, Emergency Department Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Practitioner. She also has had vast experience in nursing education as an Associate Degree Nursing Instructor and Director, course Coordinator and Assistance Professor of Nursing in a Baccalaureate program. Marlene has also been a Nursing Consultant and has participated in the judicial system as an Expert Nursing Witness.  Under the guidance of Marlene as she served as an instructor and director of the nursing program at her local community college, the program achieved a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX® State Boards exam.

While teaching at various schools of nursing, Marlene Hurst noted the abundance of workshops and prep courses for the graduate nurse and the lack of these opportunities for the student nurse.  As an instructor Marlene was aware that many students need extra help while still in school.  This is how Hurst Review Services got its start.  Since that time Marlene has developed a wide variety of seminars specifically geared toward the student nurse as well as the graduate.

Entertaining education or “Edutainment” is the best way to describe a Hurst Review Services seminar.  The atmosphere in these classes is fun, energetic, and thought provoking.  Many students have commented on how relaxed the classes are and how comfortable they felt asking questions or contributing to the dialogue.  Each seminar is concluded with a comprehensive review of test questions to ensure that you can apply what you have learned.

When she is not traveling from California to Florida and all points in-between to conduct seminars, Marlene feels it is essential to keep her teaching skills polished. The way she maintains her edge is easy – she researches the latest advancements, develops and writes new lecture materials and actively practices her profession in a clinical environment. Marlene is now writing a series of nursing textbooks for The McGraw-Hill Companies. These books will be available in bookstores throughout the country Spring 2008. Currently available, Finally Understanding Fluids and Electrolytes, a three CD set written by Marlene Hurst, is available through Hurst Review Services.

Marlene’s enthusiasm and hard earned wisdom is evident whether you hear her speak in person or listen to her online lectures.  Her goal is cutting study time by explaining difficult nursing content in a way that everyone can follow and understand.
