Where is your home office?

Hurst Review Services is located in Brookhaven, Mississippi. However, our staff is willing and able to travel to any location for the convenience of the student.

How is Hurst Review different from other reviews?

WHAT we teach:  We know you want a handout and we are going to give it to you!!!  We tell you exactly WHAT to study and HOW to study so that you don’t have to read all of your nursing school books (that you know you did not read in nursing school… although every chapter is highlighted! ?) We cover core content, clinical scenarios, testing strategies, dispel rumors, and much more.

HOW we teach:  We do not read to you. Our instructors make sure you understand the core content before moving to a new concept. We teach in basic terms because if you understand the basic concepts you will understand the complex.  We teach in an integrated manner to help you “connect the dots.”  The questions you will see on the NCLEX® are  testing the ability to critically think and apply the knowledge you have already to situations you have not heard of or have been exposed to in a clinical situation.

You also have a personal contact person… your instructor or anyone at our office. If you are studying and you do not understand what was discussed in the review, you are welcome to call our office or send us an email and we will answer your questions.

Hurst Review is in your corner! If you do not succeed…. we do not succeed.
Our students are our priority!

How long has Hurst Review been helping students pass the NCLEX®?

Hurst Review was established in 1988 by Marlene Hurst. Marlene discovered she had a “gift” of helping nursing students to pass the NCLEX®. She was encouraged to start Hurst Review after helping two separate nursing programs raise their pass rates for the NCLEX® to 100%  in one year.  The first nursing school that Marlene helped started with a pass rate of 19%. In six months, Marlene with her special “gift” helped this school to achieve a pass rate of 89%.  In the following six months, the school had a 100% pass rate. The second school had a pass rate of 69% pass rate when Marlene started helping the nursing school. Marlene was able to help the school achieve a 100% pass rate in a very short time.

Is the Hurst review current with the most recent NCSBN test changes?

Hurst Review Services formally evaluates all student materials on an annual basis by over 75 faculty who practice in all areas of nursing with many degree levels. In addition, Hurst attends the NCLEX® Invitational each year to be updated on any changes that will affect the NCLEX® Exam. NCSBN is also continuously reviewing their test plan and alters it as needed every three years.

The 2010 plan will be released in April and will have minimal changes in only two categories: Management of Care will increase to 16-22% of the test rather than 13-19%; Reduction of Risk Potential will decrease from 13-19% of the test to 10-16%. These changes should not impact our core content review or your preparation.

The test will continue to have alternate format questions as it has for the past 6 years. It does, however, add the option of auditory questions. Testing centers will provide candidates with head phones at the beginning of the test. Testing centers will also introduce palm vein readings as a method of ID. We recommend students complete the tutorial section on the NCSBN web site as well as the Pearson Vue website.

Hurst Review Services will continue to attend all meetings held by NCSBN and review research studies performed by the writers of the NCLEX® to ensure our core content review reflects any changes made available by the NCSBN.

We have revised our student book for 2010; not due to any NCLEX changes, but are based on improved organization of the book and in response to requests for information be added as resources.

What should I bring to class the first day?

Please bring your registration receipt and a photo ID. If paying your registration balance at the review, dont forget your checkbook or credit card. It is also a good idea to bring a sweater or jacket for comfort and a snack if desired for break.
