While teaching at various schools of nursing, Marlene noticed an abundance of workshops and prep courses for graduate nurses and a lack of opportunities for the student nurses. After receiving her Master of Science in Nursing from the Mississippi University for Women in 1988, she started Hurst Review Services the very same year to fill that urgent need.

Marlene is an Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner-RC, a certified Critical Care Nurse and an Advanced Cardiac Life Support instructor. Fondly known as “Aunt Marlene,” Marlene’s goal is to cut study time by explaining complex nursing content in a way that everyone can follow and understand.

Marlene’s passion for her subject and her students is palpable in her lectures, life and work. She continuously works to maintain a nursing edge by researching the latest advances, developing and writing new lecture material and teaching in a clinical environment.
